Leucospermums and Other Proteaceous Plants in Glorious Bloom
Hello! We hope you’ve been staying safe and healthy during this strange and challenging time. For all of us in the nursery business, this is going to be a long haul, and we will have to get through it together.
Here at Grubb & Nadler, we have been working with a small crew in a limited capacity to take care of our plants and meet our customers’ needs with the safety of our team as our utmost priority. We are still shipping throughout Southern California; for the moment, trucks to Northern California are on hold, but we hope to resume soon. Click here to view our full availability list.
Meanwhile, our crops are thriving, just loving the recent rain. Many of our protea-family plants have burst into bloom, and our head grower Gregg snapped some spectacular photos of their bright flowers the other day on a rainy nursery walk. Have a look!
Our leucospermums are covered with pincushion blooms in all their various sparkling sunset hues, from fiery orange to pale peach to golden yellow. These are low-maintenance, low-water show-stoppers, an unusual and beautiful choice for a cutting garden or public landscape where a burst of color in late winter/early spring is welcome.
Other protea-family plants are also starting to bloom, like the luxuriant Protea ‘Pink Ice’ (above right) and Leucadendron discolor ‘Pom Pom’ (below right). Both of these plants provide dramatic pops of color in a low-water landscape.
Grevilleas are still going strong, too, with their exotically detailed flowers and interesting conifer-like foliage. Grevillea ‘Superb’ (below left) is one of our favorites, as is the prolific bloomer Grevillea ‘Long John’ (below right).
Grevillea ‘Moonlight’ (below) really shows its ethereal color and iridescence against the rainy sky.
We hope you’re able to carry on safely with some of your projects, and we will do our best to help you however we can. Please contact our team at hello@grubbandnadler.com to inquire about orders, and view our full availability list here.
