Trailing Succulents for Hanging Baskets

We’re growing so many gorgeous varieties of trailing succulents, perfect for hanging baskets, vertical gardens, and container gardens. Read more to see some of our favorites!

Senecio radicans ‘String of Bananas’ makes a great houseplant in a room with lots of light, but it’s equally happy outdoors in mild climates. Fast-growing and easy to care for, this plant needs good drainage and likes to get dry between waterings.

Senecio radicans ‘Fish Hooks’ (above) is similar, also producing copious leaves that can trail to several feet long.

Ceropegia woodii 'Variegata,’ the String of Hearts plant, is aptly named for its sweet little heart-shaped leaves, strung together on delicate vines. Shades of mauve, dusty pink, silver, and butter yellow are scattered across the variegated foliage with a soft patina. When it blooms (usually in spring or summer), the flowers will look like tiny magenta trumpets. This rare beauty makes a perfect plant gift (retailers, try these for your Mother’s Day displays!).

Sedum morganianum ‘Burrito’ (above) is another adorable choice for hanging baskets, also great trailing over the lip of a pot. Its pale green leaves have an almost silvery look, and they’re easy to grow and propagate.

The rare and lovely Senecio peregrinus ‘String of Dolphins’ (above) is aptly named, with its enchanting little leaves that actually resemble leaping dolphins. Like its cousins, ‘String of Dolphins’ needs well-drained soil, nice bright light (but not too much direct sun) and mild weather if grown outdoors (no frost for this cutie).
